First of all , strikes me about this Syba SY-NBK68002 Silent Giant 7 inch laptop Cooling Pad, (what a mouthful!), is its huge fan. In an electronics market full of laptop cooler pads many of which have two little fans placed at either side of their unit, Syba decided to go another route.
Using the road less traveled has paid off. They designed their cooling pad having a fan that occupies over three quarters of the surface of the unit. Which means no matter where the "hot spot" is on your laptop this fan is going to be under it. A large fan surface means a wider section of ventilation. A wider section of ventilation means a cooler laptop.
Now, because of the size of this fan, (7 inches), you would think that this unit makes enough noise to shake you off your office chair. Fortunately, you'd be very wrong. This unit is dead quiet! The fan runs at 20-24db that is less noise than most computer CPU fans. ?This can be a massive bonus if you work in places that need silence like a library or in class.
I must say that for that tiny price tag this Syba SY-NBK68002 Fan Cooling Pad is really a bargain. I mean, for just over ten bucks you receive a unit that maybe isn't perfect but does what it really is supposed to and will it well too!
Another added feature towards the fan system is speed. The fan speed is generally around 750 RPM but will adjust automatically depending on the temperature from the laptop. So, when the cooler pad has helped drop the temperature from the laptop its fan drops down in speed a little to maintain the cooling.
So we are able to now observe that having a huge fan at the centre of a air conditioning can do wonders but just like all good things perfection continues to be a distance away. Things i am talking about is how the underside of the unit is left open. Which means that you must be careful where you put the pad as the fan is on. I don't know why Syba decided to leave the underneath open. To anyone who uses their lap like a base, this will be seen as a major flaw in the unit.
With the fan exposed the bottom is open, so if you set it directly on your lap or other soft surface, the fan will press against your leg rather than spinning. You must use a hard surface, even when it just a large book or piece of cardboard.
This is not a cooler pad for those of you who work off your lap or about the couch etc. This is strictly a solid surface workplace. I would say it's something to do with the low price but to tell you the truth I'd pay an additional ten bucks with this laptop cooler pad whether it had a specific fan.
If you are not very techno minded then no need to worry because this is a simple plug 'n' play unit that doesn't require any setup software or drivers; all you need is a free USB port.? There isn't any on/off switch, although unplugging a USB from the laptop isn't the most difficult of things to do.
Another interesting feature how the Syba SY-NBK68002 has is a set of quite attractive blue LED lights. This can give a slight ambient lighting effect which will come in handy if you are in a dark place. Nowhere light may also be used as a reminder to unplug the unit when you put the computer to rest.
One other thing you need to know is that this cooling stand is placed at a particular height and can't be adjusted. Actually the peak will not need adjusting for most of us as it is set just right. The rear legs really are a little higher which provides it a nice slope which means this shouldn't be an issue.
Overall the Syba SY-NBK68002 Silent Giant 7-Inch Fan Laptop / Notebook Cooling Pad, (another mouthful!), is a very good air conditioning considering the price range. It will work nicely regardless of how often or not you use your laptop and really at the conclusion of the day that's the main reason for buying a laptop cooling stand, right? It is quiet, efficient and never bad looking having a very low price tag.
